Camp Yokey FAQs

Q:  What is Camp Yokey all about?

A: Camp Yokey provides hands-on, project based STEAM courses involving technology, art & engineering and focusing on the whole child.  Taking place in the awesome Yokey Pokey Virtual Reality space all the technology and equipment is used for learning, exploration and fun.

Q: Is Camp Yokey associated with YokeyPokey Virtual Reality?

A: Yes, YokeyPokey Virtual Reality is where we do birthday parties, corporate events, walk-ins for people looking to have some fun and play some games.  It’s an arcade with all types of options to play virtual reality games.  Part of the mission YokeyPokey Virtual Reality has is to bring world class STEM education (after all, one of the founders is a school principal) to our local communities.  We have been doing so in local schools such as PS29, PS58, IS187 and others.  The camp is an extension of those STEM education classes.

Q: Something came up, what is your refund policy?

A: We know things come up and sometimes you have to cancel on us.  We have a $200 fee for each week of classes that is not refundable after purchase.  As long as you request a refund 30 days or more before the start of the camp we will refund the difference.  As an example, if a camp week you purchased is $600 and you need to cancel, we will refund $400 ($600 minus $200 admin fee) as long as you cancel 30 days prior to the start of camp.  Refunds will NOT be issued for withdrawals, changes, or cancellations made less than 30 days prior to the start date of the camp.

Q: Can I use my employer’s flexible spending account?

A: Chances are, yes, but check with your employer’s HR representative to make sure. Day camps are usually reimbursable under your Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account.

Q: I work.  Can I drop off earlier and have my child stay later?

A: Yes, we offer early drop off and extended care at our location.  Please reach out for early drop off and extended care options.

Q: Where do I find the camp schedule?

A: An example of a general camp schedule is located on our schedule page.

Q: What does my child do during extended care times?

A: Campers are supervised by counselors during extended care times, and their activities depend on their interests. Tabletop games (Connect Four, Jenga), VR games (we have a huge library) are popular activities with campers during extended care.

Q: Kids need movement, you don’t expect them to sit all day on the computer, do you?

A: We don’t like staring at the computer all day long either!  That’s why each day is broken up with outside time (weather dependent), social activities, and snack/lunch breaks.

Q: Will my child play outside?

A: Except during severe weather (which includes thunderstorms and extreme heat), each day will include outdoor activity time. We recommend sending a hat and/or sunscreen for protection.

Q: What should my child bring daily?

A: The kids should bring enthusiasm, love of learning, love for meeting new friends and working on fun challenges!  Also, bring lunch.  Water and morning/afternoon snacks are always available, but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Q: Does my child need to bring their own computer/laptop?

A: No.  All of our camps take place on our superb equipment with all required software pre-installed.  Therefore everything needed will be provided for your child to use during the camp hours.  In fact, we encourage that all personal electronic equipment is left at home.  If personal electronics are brought and become damaged and/or lost, camp Yokey, or any of the staff, are not responsible for any of the damages.

Q: Who are the camp counselors?

A: They are our very own instructors that teach in local schools and are experts in design, coding and VR. Some are college graduates and others are in school earning their technology degrees.

Q: What is the camper to counselor ratio at each camp?

A: We typically try to maintain a maximum 8:1 camper to counselor ratio at our camps but will reduce this to 6:1 for some of our introductory camps.

Q: Will my child be behind if he or she misses a day of camp?

A: Many of our camps build on knowledge from past days. However, we understand that some campers may have illnesses or obligations that cause them to miss camp time. We will do our best to keep all campers up to speed.

Q: I have more questions, can I speak with someone.

A: Yes!  Email or call us at 732-965-3969.
